My experiences with Nystagmus
What can you see?
My vision is pretty blurry at the best of times. I can read text close up, but even with glasses I struggle to make out text and faces from a distance (and it doesn't need to be too far away).
Have you ever met anyone else with nystagmus?
No, no I haven't, or least not that I know of, although from joining Nystagmus Network’s Facebook group recently, I am learning how common it is, and it surprises me that I've never met anyone else with the condition. There are potentially two things that may have not helped here, one being that the another person I met had nystagmus and they didn't feel the need to announce it (I can relate), the other being that with my eyesight being so bad, I ironically probably just didn't notice that the other person's head or eyes were shaking.
My nephew was born two years ago with the condition too, but as my family are all in England and I am living in Australia I am yet to meet the little legend.
Is your head "Wiggle" getting worse or better with age?
I couldn't say, I just know it annoys me less.
Is your eyesight getting worse or better with age?
According to the opticians my eyes are actually slowly improving....but not significantly, and I can’t say that I have noticed any significant improvement over the years.
Is your vision tunnel vision?
No….just no. I’ve had a few people assume this one over the years, some people have even gone as far as telling me that I have tunnel vision, and I don’t know why. But, no I do not have tunnel vision, my peripheral vision is the same as any “normal visioned” person.
